1 Day Akagera National Park

Located in Eastern, Akagera National Park is named after Kagera River that flows along Rwanda’s eastern boundary with Tanzania. The river feeds into Lake Ihema and other smaller lakes in and around the park. Akagera comprise savannah, woodland, wetland and a dozen lakes. The park is the Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last remaining refuge for savannah-adapted species in Rwanda and it is Home to the Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Cape buffalo, Rhino and Elephant) as well as hundreds of other animal and bird species.

Our journey to Akagera National Park starts at 5:30am. Your driver guide will pick you at the hotel/ your residence and depart for Akagera National Park. After 2 hours and half, we arrive at the park gate for registration then proceed to the park reception. From here, you will start our game drive from the south to the north passing through a range of habitats from acacia thickets, woodland, bushes and savanna grassland in search of Big Five and other animals such as Giraffe, Zebras, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, birds, monkeys and many more. We will drive 6 to 7 hours from the southern part to exit in the north with lunch stopover at Mihindi. After the game drive, we shall start the journey back to Kigali.
