Mountain Gorilla Trekking-Uganda
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rain forests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this “impenetrable forest” also protects an estimated 459 mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population, including several habituated groups, which can be tracked. The forest also provides shelter to a further 120 mammals, around 350 species of birds including 23 Albertine Rift endemics.
You will be in a tropical forest; it can rain anytime. We encourage you to carry a rain jacket, waterproof hiking boots, gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants. Wear Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts. Don’t forget the camera
Start the day with an early morning breakfast before driving to the briefing point at 7am. The Ugandan Wildlife Authority ranger guide will share about the code of conduct in the park. You will then be allocated a gorilla family to trek after which you will start off gorilla trekking these gentle giants as directed by the rangers. The hike can sometimes be tough and anywhere from 1 hour to 8 hours depending on where the gorillas will be on a specific. But when meet them; your journey will be well worth the effort. You get to hear the gorillas communicating with one another, watch them play, feed, jump from different tree branch to another, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant called Silverback. You are allowed an hour with the gorillas watching them from six meters before returning to the base station. Later, return back and go for lunch before driving to Volcanoes National Park.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking And Gorilla Guardians
Volcanoes national park is part of the great Virunga volcano conservation region spanning to cover Virunga National Park Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. It was named after the chain of dormant volcanoes making up the Virunga Massif: Karisimbi – the highest at 4,507m, Bisoke, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura. The park is home to the endangered mountain gorillas where Dian Fossey spent 20 years studying and protecting these gentle creatures. In addition to mountain gorillas, the park is a home for golden monkeys, a variety of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects among other creatures.
Make sure you wear comfortable hiking boots and long-sleeve shirt and pants against the brush and don’t leave your camera.
After an early breakfast, met by your drive guide to Volcanoes National Park and report to the park reception for registration and be allocated a guide and a gorilla family to trek. You will be briefed on keeping a safe distance from mountain gorillas and how to behave near mountain gorillas before heading in the forest to search for the gorillas. The trek can vary between 1 to 5 hours to the gorillas climbing steep slopes, through uneven vegetation, at an altitude of above 2,500m. When you reach your mountain gorilla family, you will spend one hour observing them up close grooming, caring for young ones, eating or just walking around you. You have been preparing for this moment, but the emotion you feel is more profound than you imagined. You will return to the starting point and drive to the lodge for lunch and relaxation
